BlackLightsMatter

Blacklights Matter is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of people who think blacklight posters are really cool and all old-hippies. We are working to (re)build the Age of Aquarius and all liberation movements. This is Not a Moment, but a Movement.

Rooted in the experiences of old hippies in this country who actively resist our marginalization, #BlackLightsMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-old hippie racism that permeates our society and the pervasive marginalization of Blacklight posters, which are really far-out.

It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within rural communes and South Austin neighborhoods, which merely call on Blacklight people to love Blacklights, smoke weed and buy Blacklight posters. Blacklights Matter affirms the lives of Old-hippie queer and trans folks, disabled folks, prisoners of the war on drugs, folks with records, women and all people living in the 60s (or 70s) anywhere along the gender spectrum.  It centers on those that straight society thinks are just weird and all living within hippie fringe movements. Skin color, age and nationality really don't matter, as long as you like skinny dipping. It is a tactic to (re)build the Summer of Love, pot smoking and anti-war movement.

Right-on & keep on truckin!
