Bystander recordings of police seem to be everywhere these days, drawing attention and outrage to situations in places like North Charleston, S.C., New York Cityand McKinney, Tex. However, not everyone is precisely clear on when they can and cannot record the police, and there have been a rash of incidents where officers tried to stop such recordings.

Can the authorities ask you to delete your recordings? Can the police ask  you to stop recording? And when do you have the right to record and photograph police? This brief video primer should help provide a little guidance.
